ODS is the native spreadsheet format of LibreOffice and OpenOffice, used widely in public administration, schools and organizations that avoid proprietary formats. Recipients outside that world often cannot open it, and even when they can, the layout shifts. A PDF looks the same everywhere.

This page starts in landscape, which suits the wide tables typical of spreadsheets. For Excel files see XLSX to PDF, and if the recipient needs to edit the data rather than read it, convert with ODS to XLSX instead.

How to convert ODS to PDF in three steps

  1. 1Upload the .ods spreadsheet.
  2. 2Keep landscape or choose portrait, then pick the sheets to include.
  3. 3Convert and download the PDF.

Page layout differences between LibreOffice and a clean PDF export

LibreOffice stores print ranges, page styles and scaling in the ODS file, but most spreadsheets are never set up for printing. Exported with defaults, a table with fifteen columns splits across several pages vertically. Laying the sheet out in landscape and dropping blank spacer columns keeps far more of each row readable on one page.

Fonts are a quieter issue. ODS files often use fonts like Liberation Sans or DejaVu that are not installed on every computer. In the PDF, text is embedded, so the document prints the same on any device and in any viewer, without substituted fonts that change column widths and cut off numbers.

Very wide sheets have a practical limit, even in landscape. Remove helper columns before converting, or split the content across sheets. If the audience reads on screen rather than paper, XLSX to HTML keeps tables scrollable, and for data exchange ODS to CSV is the better choice.
