JSON to Excel that flattens nested objects into columns
Upload or paste the JSON, choose how nested objects and arrays are flattened, then convert and download the XLSX. Each object becomes a row and each key becomes a column.

API responses, logs and exports from SaaS tools arrive as JSON, and the people who need to read them work in Excel. Opening raw JSON in a spreadsheet gives one cell with a wall of text, which helps no one.
XlsConverter walks the JSON structure, collects every key across all records into one header row, and writes a typed XLSX. For a plain text table instead of a workbook, see JSON to CSV. For the reverse direction, use Excel to JSON.
How to convert JSON to Excel in three steps
- 1Upload a .json file, paste JSON, or give an HTTPS URL.
- 2Choose the records path and how nested data is flattened.
- 3Convert and download the Excel workbook.
Turning nested JSON arrays into a flat spreadsheet table
A spreadsheet is two dimensional and JSON is not. An order with three line items cannot sit in one row without a decision. You can repeat the order fields on three rows (good for pivot tables), join the items into one cell (good for reading), or write the items to a second sheet with an order_id column linking back (good for analysis). Each choice is a setting, not a manual cleanup.
Records in real APIs rarely share the exact same keys. One customer has a phone, another has two, a third has none. We scan every record before writing the header, so a key that appears only in record 4,000 still gets a column instead of being dropped. Missing values become empty cells.
Types carry over: JSON numbers become Excel numbers, true and false become TRUE and FALSE, and ISO date strings are converted to real Excel dates so sorting works. Very large arrays are split across sheets at the 1,048,576 row limit of XLSX. When the data really belongs in a database, CSV to SQL or Excel to PostgreSQL is the next step after flattening.
JSON to Excel questions
How do I convert JSON to Excel?
Upload the JSON file, choose the records path and flattening rules, and download the XLSX. Each object becomes a row and each key a column.
How are nested JSON objects shown in Excel?
As dotted column names, so customer.name and customer.email appear as separate columns.
What happens to arrays inside JSON records?
You choose: expand them into rows, join them into one cell, or move them to a linked sheet with a key column.
Can I convert JSON Lines files to Excel?
Yes. Files with one JSON object per line are read record by record and written as rows.
Can I convert JSON to Excel in the demo?
Yes, once, for up to 100 records, viewed in the browser and downloaded after signup. Larger files need a plan from 24 USD per month billed yearly.
