XML to Excel that finds the repeating records for you
Upload the XML file, confirm the detected repeating element, then convert and download the XLSX. Each repeating element becomes a row, with its attributes and child elements as columns.

Bank statements, product feeds, government exports and e-invoices often arrive as XML. It is precise for machines but unreadable for an analyst, and the Excel XML import dialog frequently produces a confusing table or fails on large files.
XlsConverter detects the element that repeats, turns it into rows and flattens the rest into columns. For a plain text table use XML to CSV, and to send the data back as XML later use Excel to XML.
How to convert XML to Excel in three steps
- 1Upload the .xml file or give its HTTPS URL.
- 2Confirm the record element and choose how nested data is flattened.
- 3Convert and download the Excel workbook.
Attributes, namespaces and repeating children in XML imports
XML can store the same fact in two ways: <price currency="USD">19.90</price> puts the currency in an attribute and the amount in the text. A useful spreadsheet needs both, so we write price and price@currency as two columns. You choose whether attribute columns get a prefix, which helps when an attribute and a child element share a name.
Namespaces make column names long and noisy, for example cbc:InvoicedQuantity in UBL invoices. Dropping the prefix gives cleaner headers, while keeping it avoids clashes when two namespaces define the same local name. The preview shows the result before you convert.
Repeated children are the hardest part. An invoice with ten InvoiceLine elements can become ten rows that repeat the header fields, or one row per invoice plus a second sheet of lines linked by invoice ID. Types are inferred per column, so amounts become numbers and ISO dates become Excel dates. If the data is going into a database next, CSV to SQL or Excel to MySQL continue from here.
XML to Excel questions
How do I convert an XML file to Excel?
Upload the XML, confirm the repeating record element, and download the XLSX. Each record becomes a row.
Why does Excel say the XML has no schema?
Excel creates its own schema guess and can fail on complex files. XlsConverter does not need a schema because it detects the record structure from the data.
Are XML attributes included in the spreadsheet?
Yes. Attributes become their own columns, optionally prefixed with @.
Can I convert large XML files to Excel?
Yes. The XML is read as a stream, so files up to your plan limit convert, and output beyond 1,048,576 rows continues on new sheets.
Can I test XML to Excel first?
A one-time demo converts up to 100 records and lets you download them after signup. Whole files require a plan from 24 USD per month billed yearly.
