Repeated child elements inside one record

XML allows a record to contain several elements with the same name, for example an order with three line elements. A table needs a rule for that. You can join the values into one cell, create numbered columns or write one CSV row per repeated child, repeating the parent fields.

Namespaces make column names long and noisy. A feed with xmlns prefixes produces headers like g:price, which many tools mishandle. Stripping prefixes keeps names readable, as long as two namespaces do not use the same local name, which the converter checks and reports.

Large feeds are streamed rather than loaded into memory at once, so files with hundreds of thousands of records convert reliably. If the source is a JSON API instead, JSON to CSV applies the same flattening logic, and Excel to XML shows the opposite direction.

Options for XML to CSV

Record element: Choose the repeating element, such as item or Transaction, from a list of detected candidates.
Attributes: Include attributes as columns with an @ prefix, or skip them.
Nested elements: Flatten child elements into dotted column names such as price.amount.
Namespaces: Strip namespace prefixes from column names or keep them for clarity.
Encoding: Reads the encoding declared in the XML and writes UTF-8 or UTF-8 with BOM.
