Split Excel sheets into one CSV file per worksheet

Saving a workbook as CSV in Excel exports only the active sheet. With twelve monthly tabs or one tab per region, that means clicking through Save As twelve times and renaming each file by hand, with a good chance of exporting the same tab twice or forgetting one.

How to convert Split Excel sheets in three steps

File names, hidden tabs and other details of splitting a workbook

Tab names make good file names, but not always safe ones. A tab called Sales 2026/Q1 contains a slash that most file systems reject, and two tabs that differ only in case collide on Windows. File names are cleaned of characters that cannot appear in a path, so the ZIP extracts cleanly on every operating system. Give tabs distinct names if they differ only in case.

Hidden and very hidden worksheets are part of the workbook even if nobody sees them in Excel. They are split out as well, because a lookup table or parameter sheet is often exactly what the receiving system needs. If you do not want them, delete them in the workbook first. Chart sheets have no cells and are skipped.

Each CSV stands on its own, so the header row has to exist on every tab. Workbooks where only the first tab has a header and later tabs continue the data are better merged with Merge Excel sheets. For legacy files, the same split works from XLS to CSV, and for many workbooks at once the Pro plan accepts batches.
