Workbooks are often organized with one tab per month, per store or per sales rep, all with the same columns. That layout is easy to fill in and hard to analyze, because a pivot table, a database import or a BI tool wants one long table. Copying and pasting tabs underneath each other is slow and easy to get wrong.

This tool stacks all tabs of one workbook into a single CSV. It works on one file at a time; to process many workbooks, the Pro plan takes batches. If you want the reverse, one file per tab, use Split Excel sheets.

How to convert Merge Excel sheets in three steps

  1. 1Upload the .xlsx, .xls or .ods workbook.
  2. 2Keep all sheets and merge sheets on, and point to the header row.
  3. 3Convert and download one CSV with the rows of every tab.

What has to match across tabs before you merge them

Merging works on headers, so the tabs need the same column names. A column called Revenue on one tab and Sales on another ends up as two separate columns in the output, with blanks where a tab has no value. Spend a minute aligning the header names in the workbook first; it is the single biggest factor in a clean result. Enabling trim removes the invisible differences caused by trailing spaces.

The output does not add a column with the tab name. If you need to know which month or store a row came from, make sure that information is already a column on each tab, for example a Month column filled down. Without it, rows from different tabs are indistinguishable once stacked.

Subtotal and total rows are the other common problem. They look like data, so they get merged along with everything else and inflate every sum. Remove them from the tabs before converting, or filter them out after. If the merged table should go straight into a database, convert the result with CSV to SQL, or keep a workbook with CSV to XLSX.

Merge Excel sheets questions

How do I combine all sheets of an Excel workbook into one?

Upload the workbook with merge sheets enabled and convert. Rows from every tab are stacked under one header in a single CSV.

Do the tabs need identical columns?

They should share the same header names. Columns are matched by name, so differently named columns end up side by side with blanks.

Will the merged file show which tab each row came from?

No, no sheet name column is added. Add a column such as Month or Store to each tab before converting if you need it.

Can I merge several separate Excel files into one?

This tool merges the tabs of one workbook. For many files, the Pro plan converts them in batches, one result per workbook.

Can I try merging sheets before paying?

Yes, the one-time demo handles up to 100 rows. Full workbooks need a plan, from 24 USD per month billed yearly.
