XLSX to ODS for OpenDocument office suites
Upload the XLSX workbook, choose whether to keep formulas, and convert. The result is an ODS file that opens in OpenDocument office suites with all sheets intact.

Many public agencies and open document policies require ODS rather than XLSX. XlsConverter rewrites Excel workbooks as standards compliant ODS files, translating formulas and keeping sheet names, number formats and column widths.
The conversion works in both directions, see ODS to XLSX. If the receiving side only needs the numbers, XLSX to CSV is lighter.
How to convert XLSX to ODS in three steps
- 1Upload the XLSX file from Excel or Google Sheets.
- 2Pick all sheets or one sheet and decide on formulas or values.
- 3Convert and download the .ods file.
What does not survive the move to OpenDocument
Core data, formulas and formatting move cleanly, but some Excel specific features have no ODS counterpart. Power Query connections, slicers and dynamic array spill behavior are the usual examples. The converter writes the current values of those areas so the file still shows the right numbers.
Structured table references such as Table1[Amount] are another case. ODS has no Excel tables, so the converter rewrites those references as plain ranges. The formulas keep working, they just look different when you open them.
If your workbook comes from a macro enabled file, convert it first with XLSM to XLSX to see exactly what remains without VBA. For sharing a read only snapshot instead of an editable file, XLSX to PDF is often what the recipient really wants.
XLSX to ODS questions
How do I save an Excel file as ODS?
Excel has an OpenDocument option in Save As, but it may warn about lost features. XlsConverter produces an ODS file with formulas translated and no prompts.
Do formulas still work after converting XLSX to ODS?
Yes. Formulas are rewritten in OpenFormula syntax and recalculate when the file is opened.
Are Excel macros kept in ODS?
No. ODS does not run VBA, so macros are removed and the data and formulas remain.
Why do government offices ask for ODS files?
ODS is an open standard that does not depend on one vendor, so many public bodies require it for submissions and archives.
Is there a demo for XLSX to ODS?
Yes, a one-time demo converts up to 100 rows. Full files are part of the paid plans, from 24 USD per month billed yearly.
