When automatic typing does more harm than good

Type detection is convenient until it changes meaning. A ZIP code like 02134 becomes the number 2134, and a product code like 1E5 becomes 100000. The converter keeps any value with a leading zero or scientific notation look as a string, and you can mark columns as text explicitly.

Empty fields are ambiguous in CSV. JSON lets you choose between an empty string, null or omitting the key. APIs often treat these differently, so pick the behavior your consumer expects, and keep it the same between runs.

Semicolon delimited files are common in European exports where the comma is the decimal separator. Detecting the delimiter correctly also means reading 1,5 as 1.5, which the converter does when the locale is set. For spreadsheet sources with several sheets, XLSX to JSON writes one key per sheet, and CSV to XML serves systems that still want XML.
