XLSM to CSV without running macros

Macro enabled workbooks often hold operational data such as price models, planning sheets and calculated exports. Getting that data into another system should not require opening the file and enabling content. XlsConverter reads the saved values and writes CSV without running any VBA.

To keep the whole workbook but drop the macros, use XLSM to XLSX. Files are handled as described on security.

How to convert XLSM to CSV in three steps

The CSV shows what was saved, not what a macro would compute

Many XLSM files rely on a macro that refreshes data when the file is opened, for example pulling rates or rebuilding a report sheet. Since nothing runs during conversion, the CSV contains the values as of the last save. If someone saved the file before refreshing, the export reflects that older state.

Cells using VBA defined functions keep their cached result, which is correct as long as the workbook was saved after calculation. Regular formulas are exported as calculated values too, as with any CSV export.

This approach is safer than opening unknown macro files on a desktop, because the code is never executed. For further processing you can continue with CSV to SQL, or export from standard workbooks through XLSX to CSV.
